Arsenal Scouts Spotted In Portugal

Gunners Linked With Herrera

Arsenal transfer news

Arsenal sent scouts to watch the Portugese league clash between Benfica and FC Porto at the weekend.

The Gunners were one of a number of clubs to have a representative at the game which Benfica won 1-0 thanks to a goal from Haris Seferovic.

Manchester United, Liverpool, Crystal Palace, Juventus, Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain, Lyon, Inter Milan, Ajax and Bayer Leverkusen all had scouts at the game.

The fixture is an attractive one for Europe’s top clubs. Although the Portugese top flight is rated at number 7 in Uefa’s Country Co-efficient rankings it is dominated by Benfica, Porto and Sporting Lisbon. Clubs can gain a better idea of a player’s worth in fixtures between the big three.

It isn’t known who Arsenal were watching at the weekend. However, the Gunners are being linked with Porto’s Mexico international midfielder Hector Herrera. They have had the 28-year-old watched on a number of occasions. Herrera is being seen as a replacement for Aaron Ramsey who looks set to quit the Emirates when his contract expires at the end of the season. The Mexican also becomes a free agent next summer. He is free to speak to overseas clubs from 1 January over a pre-contract agreement.

Gunners Interested In Sancho

Meanwhile, Arsenal are being linked with Borussia Dortmund teenager Jaden Sancho. The 18-year-old moved to Germany from Manchester City in 2017 for a fee of £8million. But his performances for the Bundesliga side so far this season have led to an England call-up.

Sancho is the leading goal-maker in the German top flight so far this season. He was part of the England side that won the World Cup at under-17 level.

Dortmund are reported to have stuck a £100million valuation on the London-born youngster and are bracing themselves for bids from Premier League clubs next summer.
