Brendan Rodgers Also In The Frame

Championship side Aston Villa want a ‘dream team’ of Thierry Henry and John Terry to take over the top job at Villa Park.

The Birmingham club sacked Steve Bruce last week and Saturday’s 2-1 defeat at Millwall sees the side drop to 15th place in the table.

The club’s American owners are looking for a big name to succeed Bruce and are considering two options at present. The first would see current Belgium assistant manager Thierry Henry take over as manager with John Terry as his assistant. Terry announced on Sunday that he would be retiring as a player leading to speculation over a move into coaching. He has already been linked with an academy job at Chelsea. Both men were interviewed for the Villa job last week.

However, there is also the option of Villa making a move for Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers. The former Swansea and Liverpool boss has experience of managing in the Championship having led the Swans to promotion to the Premier League. But Villa have yet to make a formal approach partly due to Celtic’s busy schedule.
