Herrera Wants New Deal At United
Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera would prefer to stay at Old Trafford than to move to Barcelona.
Herrera was linked at the weekend with interest from the La Liga giants. Barcelona made an attempt to sign Herrera during the summer in the knowledge that he only has one year left on his current deal with United.
But according to ESPN, the 29-year-old would prefer to stay at Old Trafford than to make the move to the Nou Camp. It claims to have been told by sources at United that the Premier League club are keen to do a deal with Herrera. Talks have already taken place over a new two-year contract but those negotiations have ground to a halt with no agreement in sight.
The Spaniard is free to speak to overseas clubs in January about a pre-contract agreement when his current deal expires.
Herrera has made just two appearances for United so far this season – one of which was off the subs’ bench. However, he is expected to return to the side for this evening’s Carabao Cup clash with Derby County at Old Trafford.
Real Linked With £72m De Jong
Real Madrid has joined the race for Manchester United transfer target Frenkie de Jong.
The 21-year-old Ajax midfielder has been linked with United and local rivals Manchester City with Barcelona also keeping tabs ahead of a bid next summer.
But according to the Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf, Real are now interested and are prepared to pay €80million (£72million).
De Jong’s agent Ali Dursun was asked at the weekend about concrete interest from United and Real, who see the youngster as the natural successor to Luka Modric.
“I can neither confirm nor deny this”, Dursun “You have to ask [Ajax sporting director] Marc Overmars because I send all information on the clubs that report to me to him.”
Manchester City had a £50million bid for de Jong rejected by Ajax this summer.
