£110m For United Transfer Target
Manchester United have been told the price Wolverhampton Wanderers want before they will part with Portugal international midfielder Ruben Neves.
The 23-year-old was part of the Wolves side that surprised United by getting a 1-1 draw when the two sides clashed at Old Trafford on Saturday. He is being linked with both United and local rivals Manchester City while Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain are also regularly monitoring his progress.
Neves moved to Wolves in January 2017 in a £14.4million transfer from Portugese side FC Porto. The size of the fee was a surprise given that he had been linked with a £40million move prior to that.
But according to The Times, Wolves have slapped a £110million price tag on the midfielder.
City boss Pep Guardiola is being linked with a £60million move in January and that could flush out a counter-bid from Manchester United. But Wolves manager Nuno Espirito Santo has already ruled out a departure for Neves in the winter transfer window.
Pogba Hits Out At United Performance
Meanwhile, Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba has criticised the side’s performance against Wolves on Saturday. United dropped two points against the newly-promoted side and now lie eight points behind leaders Liverpool at the top of the Premier League table.
But Pogba criticised United’s cautious approach to the game.
“We’re at home, and we should play much better against Wolves,” he said after the match in what is being seen in some quarters as a criticism of Jose Mourinho’s tactics.
“When we’re at home we should attack, attack, attack. That’s Old Trafford. We’re here to attack. I think teams are scared when they see Manchester United attacking and attacking.
“That was our mistake.
“We should just attack and press, like we did against Tottenham, Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal last season. When we play like this, it’s easier for us.”
Midfielder Alexis Sanchez came in for some criticism from United fans for his poor performance. The Chile international was taken off by Jose Mourinho after 63 minutes with Juan Mata taking his place.
Brazil international Fred scored for United on 18 minutes. Joao Moutinho equalised for Wolves eight minutes into the second half.
