Juventus Interest Cooled With Can Signing
Liverpool’s pursuit of Cagliari midfielder Nicola Barella has received a boost with the news that Juventus are no longer interested in the Italy Under-21 international.
The Reds’ interest in Barella goes back to March of this year when they were said to be interested in the 21-year-old as the replacement for Emre Can. Juve were also keen but reports from Italy are suggesting that talks never got off the ground. Their eventual signing of Can is thought to have been a factor behind them cooling their interest in Barella.
Despite relatively long-standing interest from Liverpool, Cagliari’s Serie A rivals Roma were first in the queue having opened talks some three years ago.
Reports from Italy are claiming that Liverpool still stand a good chance of signing Barella. But his price tag could be anywhere between €30million and €50million (£27-44million) with the eventual cost likely to be towards the top end of that range. It was this price tag that caused the Premier League club to put their interest on hold this summer.
Inter Milan are also interested, but once again his valuation may prove to be a problem.
