Guardiola Hoping For Talks Soon
Manchester City have yet to open talks with Raheem Sterling over a new contract at the club. However, the club are keen to tie down the England international’s future at the Etihad Stadium.
Reports earlier this week claimed that talks had taken place and that they had ground to a halt. However, there have been no such discussions although city chief executive Txiki Begiristain is keen for talks to take place.
Sterling signed a five-year contract when he moved to City from Liverpool in a £49million transfer in the summer of 2015. He scored 23 goals for the side last season and has already hit three in the current campaign.
But speaking at a press conference ahead of tonight’s Champions League clash with Lyon at the Etihad, manager Pep Guardiola was confident that a new deal can be struck.
“It’s well known that we are delighted with him and we want him to continue,” said Guardiola.
“The club knows my opinion and the club shares it, so it’s the club and Raheem’s agent.
“Sometimes it needs a long time, it’s important that Raheem and his people know how delighted we are with him.”
