But His Release Has Risen Over The Summer
Arsenal’s new head of football Raul Sanllehi has had talks with Boca Juniors forward Cristian Pavon.
Sanllehi was promoted to his new position at the Emirates following the announcement of Monday that chief executive Ivan Gazidis is to leave the club for AC Milan.
The Spaniard spent 15 years at Barcelona before his move to Arsenal at the beginning of February. The Sun claims it is Sanllehi rather than head of recruitment Sven Mislintat who is in discussions with Pavon.
Arsenal’s interest in the Argentina international goes back to the start of this year when he was being linked with the Gunners as the replacement for Alexis Sanchez. That pre-dated Sanllehi’s time at the club.
Arsenal were interested again in the summer but Pavon’s price tag was put at €35million (at the time worth just over £30million). He signed a new deal in July that saw his release clause increase to €50million (£45million).
Meanwhile, there are fears that Gazidis’s move to Milan could smooth the way for Aaron Ramsey’s departure for the Serie A giants.
Wales international Ramsey is out of contract at the end of the season and talks have stalled over a new deal.
Milan were linked last week with interest. However, those rumours began to circulate after it was claimed Gazidis was close to a move to the San Siro and speculation has heightened after the Arsenal CEO’s exit was confirmed.
