Herrera In Arsenal Link
Arsenal are being linked with a move for FC Porto’s Mexico international Hector Herrera.
The 28-year-old midfielder is out of contract at the end of the season and is believed to be ready to move on after five years with the Portugese side.
AS newspaper in Spain believes that Arsenal are one of the clubs interested in Herrera. However, it adds that one of the three other sides interested are Real Madrid. Julen Lopetegui, the coach of the La Liga giants, worked with Herrera during his time as manager of Porto and is keen to sign him up on a free transfer.
Herrera’s agent has been quick to scotch rumours of a move to the Bernabeu – at least in the January transfer window.
“The captain would never agree to leave in the middle of the season…Herrera will not leave the team,” his representative told Friday’s print edition of the Portugese daily newspaper O Jogo.
Paris Saint-Germain and Roma are being linked as well as Arsenal.
Emery Wants Monreal To Stay
Meanwhile, Arsenal boss Unai Emery wants Nacho Monreal to be offered a new deal by the club.
The 32-year-old was surprisingly linked earlier this week with interest from Barcelona as Ernesto Valverde looks for an experienced left-back to act as understudy to Jordi Alba.
But Emery played down the reports and he hailed Monreal’s performances for the Gunners this season.
“First, I knew Nacho Monreal in Spain when he was playing in Osasuna and in Malaga.” Emery said on Thursday.
“After six years here, I came and I know him as a new Nacho Monreal.
“After two weeks, after two months and now, I can say that I am very happy with him because he is 32 years old but I think physically, with his performances with us in matches, he is playing with a very good level. The rest of that, for me, is very important.
“I think we need to find a new contract with him to stay with the Arsenal team.”
