Pogba Agent Made Promise In 2016
Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba was promised a move to Barcelona or Real Madrid after three seasons at Old Trafford. The claim has been made by the Manchester Evening News which says that Pogba’s agent Mino Raiola promised him when he re-joined United “three seasons and then Spain”.
Pogba was linked in the summer with a move to Barcelona. However, United rejected the Catalan side’s initial bid of £40million plus two players and there was no follow-up bid.
But Real Madrid were strongly linked with Pogba back in 2016 when he was on the verge of leaving Juventus. Pogba was keen on the idea – certainly more interested than he was in a return back to Manchester United, a club he had left under something of a cloud for a nominal fee in 2012. The France international even bought a property in Madrid which he later claimed had been purchased for “investment” purposes.
However, Raiola had other ideas. The cash on offer – in terms of the transfer fee payable to Juventus, Pogba’s wages and perhaps most importantly of all, the agent’s fee – were far greater than anything Real Madrid were willing to pay. Real president Florentino Perez admitted as much after Pogba moved back to Old Trafford.
The last two years haven’t seen Pogba justify his £89million transfer fee and his relationship with Jose Mourinho was troubled particularly in the second half of last season.
Pogba insisted while on international duty last week that he doesn’t know what will happen “in the current months”. If the situation doesn’t improve for him this season at Old Trafford then he could well be on his way at the end of the season. However, a move away from United in the January transfer window looks highly unlikely.
