Liverpool News: Markovic Training With Academy

Serb Set To Leave In January

Lazar Markovic Liverpool transfer

Liverpool winger Lazar Markovic has been told to train with the club’s under-23 side.

The Serb remains at Anfield following the collapse of a move to Anderlecht at the end of last month. The two clubs had agreed a £2.9million fee only for Markovic to pull out of the transfer at the last minute. He later claimed there was no issue over the wages on offer at the Belgian club although reports at the time suggested that the deal had indeed collapsed over his personal terms.

But Markovic has been told that he does not feature in Jurgen Klopp’s plans for the season and he does not feature in the Liverpool squads for either the Premier League or the Champions League. But he has been told to train at the club’s academy training complex at Kirkby. He was involved in a friendly match played behind closed doors against Crewe Alexandra.

Markovic is out of contract at the end of the season. He is expected to leave the club for a nominal fee in January. A lower transfer fee is likely to help him in talks over his wages.

The 24-year-old moved to Anfield in a £20million transfer from Portugese side Benfica in 2014. He made a total of 34 appearances for the side during his first season with the club but was subsequently loaned out to Fenerbahce, Sporting Lisbon and to Anderlecht where he spent part of last season.
