Tottenham Hotspur Watching Ajax Midfielder

Scouts Monitoring De Jong

Frenkie de Jong Tottenham transfer news

Tottenham Hotspur are keeping tabs on Ajax midfielder Frenkie de Jong. However, Spurs will face competition from Barcelona for his signature.

De Jong, 21, has been watched this season by Spurs scouts. The north London club were the only Premier League side not to make any new signings this summer partly due to the spiralling costs of converting White Hart Lane into a 62,000-seat stadium.

But according to the Sunday Express, Tottenham are looking at the Netherlands Under-21 international as a possible signing next summer.

Barcelona are also keeping tabs on de Jong. Reports last week suggested that the Catalan side have de Jong on a shortlist of three targets for next summer. Barca are looking at Manchester United’s Paul Pogba and Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Adrien Rabiot as well as de Jong and are aiming to sign two of the three players.

De Jong may prove to be one of the easier of the three targets – as long as Barca meet his £40million valuation.

Spurs will have a fight on their hands if they are to beat one of Europe’s top clubs to his signature.
