Present Deal Expires Next Summer
Manchester United are in talks over a new deal for Anthony Martial.
The France international has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford, but reports suggested last weekend that he is ready to stay and fight for his place in the side. Martial has signed a new one-year lease on his house at Hale not far from United’s Carrington training complex.
According to Sky Sports, Martial has been in talks for a number of months over a contract extension. His current deal expires at the end of this season although United have an option to extend the contract to the end of June 2020 – an option they look almost certain to exercise.
The 23-year-old has fallen down the pecking order since Jose Mourinho’s arrival at Old Trafford in 2016. He made 29 Premier League starts under Louis van Gaal following his transfer from Monaco in August 2015. But that figure has dropped to 18 in each of the last two seasons under Mourinho. Martial scored nine league goals last season and just four in 2016-17.
Juventus, Paris Saint-Germain and Tottenham Hotspur were all linked with Martial during the summer. However, United refused to sell with executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward convinced the striker has yet to show his best form for the club.
