Arsenal manager Unai Emery has denied that Mesut Ozil missed Saturday’s victory over West Ham United because of a training-ground row.

Reports originating from ESPN in Brazil claimed the former Germany international stormed out of the Gunners’ London Colney training complex after being told he would be on the bench for Saturday’s game.

“Why is this information out there? It isn’t true,” Emery said after the match.

“He left training because he was going to his home because he is sick.”

Emery added that he and Ozil sat down with the club doctor on Friday and together it was decided that he would not play. Ozil was with the team before the game but left because of his illness.

“He is bad with sickness. There is no problem with the player. Speak with the doctor – he can explain better,” said Emery.

Arsenal secured their first win of the season with a 3-1 victory over the Hammers.

Ramey To Wait Before Signing New Deal

Midfielder Aaron Ramsey looks set to emulate Ozil and former Gunner Alexis Sanchez by waiting until January before deciding his future.

Ramsey is out of contract at the end of the season but is holding tight for a better offer from the club. The Wales international has seen Ozil sign a new deal worth £350,000 a week while January signing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is on £300,000 a week. Ramsey currently earns £110,000 a week and is looking to at least double that amount.

The problem for Arsenal is that their wage bill has ballooned to over £200million a year and they are looking to reduce that figure rather than increase it.

Both Ozil and Sanchez let the situation drag on until the January transfer window before deciding their futures. Ozil’s new deal was far more than he could have earned elsewhere and Ramsey looks set to take a leaf out of his book by hanging on.

Talks aren’t expected to resume until after Christmas. By then, Ramsey will be in a position to open discussions over a pre-contract agreement with an overseas club.
