Arsenal Stopper To Make Serie A Move?
Napoli are in talks over a move for Arsenal goalkeeper David Ospina, the Serie A club’s president has admitted.
Ospina is also a target for Turkish side Besiktas with talks having taken place with Arsenal over the past week. But an agreement has stalled over the size of a redemption fee at the end of a season-long loan. Around €2million separates the two sides.
But speaking to the Naples radio station Radio Kiss Kiss, Napoli president Aurelio di Laurentiis admits his club are also speaking to Arsenal.
“It’s true, he could come. We are negotiating but there are differences over their demands,” said di Laurentiis.
“It is an operation that could end with him arriving in the city.”
Ospina is one of four goalkeepers being linked with Napoli before the Serie A transfer deadline on Friday. Two of the other candidates are Liverpool keeper Simon Mignolet and the Mexico international Guillermo Ochoa.
“Mignolet? Without taking anything away from Mignolet, you know we were on to Ochoa, Mignolet and Ospina, and we are also on the former Fiorentina player, Tatarusanu. I have four in contention. I liked Ochoa but I did not want to take him any more because, even if his agents came to visit us in Dublin, he’s a non-EU citizen.”
That would imply that Ospina also has EU citizenship. He spent six years with Nice in France’s Ligue 1 and is likely to have applied for French citizenship after five years.
