Six-Year Deal For Courtois
Real Madrid have confirmed the signing of goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois from Chelsea. The Belgium international has signed a six-year contract at the Bernabeu and he moves for a fee believed to be €35million (around £31million).
Courtois moves back to the Spanish capital where he spent three seasons on loan at Atletico Madrid between 2011 and 2014 at the start of his Chelsea career. His former partner still lives there along with their two children and the 26-year-old has often cited family reasons as part of his desire to move to Real.
Courtois is expected to replace Costa Rica international keeper Keylor Navas as Real’s number 1. However, Navas warned today that he does not expect to be sold before the La Liga transfer window closes at the end of the month.
“I’ve been saying all day on the radio that Keylor is staying at Real Madrid. I can keep saying it and I’m not wrong, am I?” a reporter from Spain’s Onda Cero radio network asked Navas on Thursday.
“Sure, say it with force, I have the same desire to leave than I have to die,” Navas replied.
Croatian midfielder Mateo Kovacic has joined Chelsea on loan as part of the deal. The Premier League side have also signed keeper Kepa Arrizabalaga from Athletic Bilbao for a world-record fee of €80million (£71million) as Courtois’ replacement.
