Dembele Staying At Barcelona
Arsenal transfer target Ousmane Dembele insists he won’t be leaving Barcelona. The news comes as a blow to the Gunners who were hoping to sign the France international.
Arsenal were linked on Wednesday with a move worth a total of €100million (£89million). That would have involved a season-long loan costing €10million followed by a permanent transfer next summer for €90million. That followed Dembele’s appearance last week at a private gathering of current Arsenal players.
But speaking to Barcelona fans on Wednesday Dembele said he isn’t interested in leaving the Nou Camp and that he is preparing for the curtain-raiser to the Spanish season this weekend.
“Yes, I’m going to stay and I’m ready for the Super Cup of Spain against Sevilla,” he said.
Dembele moved to the Nou Camp from Borussia Dortmund last summer for a fee of €105million with a further €40million in add-ons. But his season was disrupted early on with a hamstring injury that he picked up in September and which kept him out of action until after Christmas. He made just 17 appearances in La Liga, only 12 of which came as a member of the starting line-up.
Speculation over Dembele’s future had cast doubts on whether he would stay especially since Barca have signed Malcom and Arthur this summer.
Arsenal are still being linked with a move for Besiktas central defender Domagoj Vida. The Gunners have been told to pay €30million (just under £27million) for the Croatia international.
