Welbeck To Leave Before Deadline?
Arsenal are open to offers for striker Danny Welbeck. The 27-year-old returned to training on Monday at the Gunners’ London Colney training complex. He was given three weeks off following England’s World Cup campaign despite playing only 11 minutes in Russia.
But Welbeck’s future at Arsenal is in doubt. Manager Unai Emery is likely to rely on Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette as his first-choice strikers in the coming season. He also wants to trim the club’s wage bill. Welbeck earns £115,000 a week.
Everton, Bournemouth and Southampton are all being linked although the two south-coast clubs would struggle to match Welbeck’s current earnings.
Turkish side Besiktas are interested. They would also struggle to pay over £100,000 a week although with high-earners paying lower taxes in Turkey compared to the UK they wouldn’t have to dig as deep to match his current earnings. However, Welbeck is unlikely to move abroad. He wants to remain in the Premier League.
Perez Set For West Ham Move
One player who will be leaving is striker Lucas Perez. The 29-year-old is on the verge of a £4million move to West Ham United and the transfer could be announced as early as today.
Hammers boss Manuel Pellegrini wants Perez to provide competition for current strikers Marko Arnautovic and Javier Hernandez. The Spaniard will become West Ham’s ninth signing of the summer and will take the club’s spending to over £100million.
Perez cost Arsenal £17.1million when they signed him from Deportivo La Coruna in the summer of 2016. But he failed to nail down a regular first-team spot and spent last season on loan at the La Liga side.
