Ghezzal Reunited With Puel
Leicester City have confirmed the signing of winger Rachid Ghezzal from Monaco on a four-year contract. No transfer fee has been disclosed by the 2016 Premier League champions but reports from France claim Monaco will receive €14million (£12.5million).
Ghezzal spent only one season with Monaco. But the move reunites him with Foxes boss Claude Puel who was in charge of Lyon where the Algeria international came up through the academy.
“I’m very excited and very happy to be here,” Ghezzal told the official Leicester website. “ I know the coach from Lyon and this is where I want to be. It’s a good Club and an ambitious one too. Leicester City has many great players and I hope we will have a great season.”
Claude Puel added: “I’m very pleased to welcome Rachid to Leicester City Football Club. He’s an exciting addition to our group who will bring creativity and competition ahead of an important season for us. I know his qualities from my time at Lyon, where he was in the academy, and I look forward to seeing him test himself in the Premier League.”
The 26-year-old moved to Monaco from Lyon as a free agent in the summer of 2017. But while he played in 26 of the side’s Ligue 1 matches last season only seven of those came as a starter with 19 as a substitute.
