Contact Made Over Maguire Transfer
Manchester United have made an enquiry over Leicester City central defender Harry Maguire. The Red Devils are continuing their search for a central defender and England star Maguire is the latest name in the frame.
Maguire only moved to the King Power Stadium just over a year ago in a £17million transfer from Hull City. But his performances at the World Cup in Russia have seen him become a wanted man. Manchester City have also been linked.
Leicester are bracing themselves for a bid in the region of £65million and will try to offer the 25-year-old a new deal worth over £100,000 a week. But he could earn in excess of that amount at Old Trafford and will be tempted by any offer from Manchester United.
Maguire has been on United’s radar for some time. Football Gossip reported as long ago as February of this year that he was being monitored by scouts from Old Trafford.
United Step Up Rebic Pursuit
Manchester United have also made contact with representatives of Eintracht Frankfurt winger Ante Rebic.
The Croatia international was another star at the World Cup just days after his season-long loan at the Bundesliga side was made permanent last month in a deal worth just €2million (£1.8million).
United are interested in signing a winger having been knocked back once again in their attempts to sign Inter Milan’s Ivan Perisic. They have turned their attentions to Rebic who some outlets are claiming in now worth €50million (£44million).
Barca End Willian Interest
Jose Mourinho is still in the market for a winger. But United’s pursuit of Chelsea’s Brazil international Willian could be back on. Barcelona have seen three bids for the 29-year-old rejected by Chelsea – the last of which was for €65million (£57.8million).
But earlier this week Barcelona suddenly turned their attentions to another Brazilian, 21-year-old Malcom who played for Bordeaux. The Catalan side snatched him from the jaws of Roma hijacking his move to the Serie A side with a last-minute bid worth €40million (£35million).
That means Barca are unlikely to put in a fresh bid for Willian leaving the way open to a move from United.
However, executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward has his reservations about making a bid of over £60million for a player who turns 30 early next month.
