Manchester United Linked Again With Rebic

Croatian Is Alternative To International Team-Mate Perisic

Ante Rebic Manchester United transfer news

Manchester United are looking at Croatia international winger Ante Rebic as an alternative to Willian.

United have been linked over the past twelve months with a move for Chelsea winger Willian, but their interest has faded in the wake of three unsuccessful bids for the 29-year-old from Barcelona. The La Liga side’s most recent bid was for £65million which has just been turned down by Chelsea.

The Independent claims today that United boss Jose Mourinho is anxious to bring in a wide player but that Ivan Perisic’s fee has rocketed following an impressive World Cup for Croatia. United failed last summer with a move for the Inter Milan winger as the two sides fell €10million apart in their valuations: Inter’s €55milliion against United’s €45million.

The Independent claims Inter are demanding £80million for Perisic. That isn’t true. As Football Gossip reported last week Inter are unwilling to entertain any kind of bid for the 29-year-old who remains a key part of coach Luciano Spalletti’s plans.

United could now turn to Rebic. The Eintracht Frankfurt winger only joined the Bundesliga side on a permanent basis at the end of June. That was after he spent a year on loan from Fiorentina. Frankfurt exercised an option of just €2million (£1.8million) to sign Rebic.

Reports last week claimed United could bid as much as €50million (£44million) for the 24-year-old. That sounds unlikely. But United will face competition for Rebic’s signature from Bayern Munich. The Bundesliga champions are monitoring his situation and could make a move of their own if Frankfurt decide they are open to offers.

Manchester United are also keen on a move for Real Madrid forward Gareth Bale. Much depends on the Wales international, but his beef with Madrid was over a lack of game time lasy season under former coach Zinedine Zidane. The appointment of Julen Lopetegui and the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo have put a completely different slant on his situation and he looks set to stay at the Bernabeu.
