Cech In Roma Link
Arsenal goalkeeper Petr Cech is wanted by Serie A side Roma as the replacement for Alisson.
The 36-year-old’s place as the Gunners’ number-one choice keeper following the arrival this summer of Bernd Leno from Bayer Leverkusen in a £22million deal. Both Cech and Colombia international keeper David Ospina are being linked with moves away from the Emirates.
Roma sold Brazilian keeper Alisson Becker to Liverpool this week for a world-record fee of £66million. Sporting director Monchi believes his defence is too young and he wants a veteran keeper to come in and organise the back four. Cech is apparently the name at the top of his list.
Chelsea are also being linked with a move for Cech. The west London club look set to sell Thibaut Courtois to Real Madrid and see a return to Stamford Bridge for Cech as a possibility. Courtois has just one year left on his contract and is refusing to put pen to paper on a new deal. Real are looking for a long-term replacement for the 31-year-old Keylor Navas and Courtois is one of a number of candidates.
Cech was linked earlier this summer with a move to Roma’s Serie A rivals Napoli.
Arsenal ‘In Talks’ Over Switzerland Keeper
Meanwhile, Arsenal are in advanced negotiations over a move for the Borussia Monchengladbach goalkeeper Yann Sommer.
The 29-year-old replaced Marc Andre Ter Stegen at the Bundesliga side when Ter Stegen moved to Barcelona. But the Spanish newspaper Marca claims Sommer is now in talks over a move to the Emirates.
Switzerland international Sommer is also being linked with interest from Barcelona should Jasper Cillessen leave the Nou Camp. Cillessen has tired of playing second fiddle to Ter Stegen and is looking to move on. Sommer is one of a number of candidates to replace him.
The arrival of Sommer is likely to mean exits for both Cech and Ospina.
