Manchester United’s hopes of signing Chelsea winger Willian are fading after Barcelona made a third bid for the Brazil international.

United have been linked with Willian on a regular basis although the only concrete evidence of any bid was in 2016 shortly after Jose Mourinho was appointed manager at Old Trafford.

But Barcelona have taken the initiative this summer. After seeing two bids rejected for the 29-year-old they have come back with a third bid of £55million.

According to a number of Brazilian media outlets, Barcelona midfielder Philippe Coutinho used time the pair spent together at the World Cup this summer to try and persuade him to move to the Nou Camp. In that regard he appears to have been successful. Willian’s public utterances on United’s approaches were that he was happy enough at Chelsea and not looking to move. He is now said to be keen on a transfer to Barcelona.

Willian is one of three Chelsea players being linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge. Eden Hazard and Thibaut Courtois are both targets for Real Madrid. However, new Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri has asked that any players who want to leave the west London club spends a week training with him in an attempt to change their mind. But Willian’s mind appears to be made up and he wants to make the move to Barca.

No Exit For Perisic

Manchester United may find themselves blocked from making any move for the Inter Milan winger Ivan Perisic. The Croatia international was a target for United last season only for Inter to demand €55million (at that time worth around £48million). United’s bid was around €10million short.

Italian newspaper Tuttosport claims the Red Devils could be back in with a fresh bid before the transfer deadline on 9 August. It suggests there will be a bid of around €60million (£53million) from the Premier League side.

However, the report adds that Inter won’t be accepting any bids for Perisic and the Croatian won’t be allowed to leave Inter. His contract with the club runs to 2022.
