Sarri Joins At Last
Chelsea have confirmed the appointment of Maurizio Sarri as their new manager on a three-year deal.
The former Napoli coach replaces Antonio Conte who was sacked on Friday.
“I am very happy to be coming to Chelsea and the Premier League. It is an exciting new period in my career,” Sarri told the official Chelsea website.
“I look forward to starting work and meeting the players on Monday ahead of travelling to Australia, where I will be able to get to know the squad and begin our match action.
“I hope we can provide some entertaining football for our fans, and that we will be competing for trophies at the end of the season, which is what this club deserves.”
Director Marina Granovskaia added: “We are delighted to welcome Maurizio and are looking forward to him bringing his football philosophy to Chelsea.
“Maurizio’s Napoli side played some of the most exciting football in Europe, impressing with their attacking approach and dynamism, and his coaching methods significantly improved the players at his disposal.
“He has plenty of experience in Serie A and the Champions League and we know he is relishing the chance to work in the Premier League.”
Chelsea, Real Madrid In Courtois Talks
Chelsea and Real Madrid have had talks over the transfer of Blues goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois.
The Belgium international is in the final year of his contract at Stamford Bridge. But he has had one eye on the keeper’s position at the Bernabeu with Real set to replace Keylor Navas before the transfer window closes in Spain at the end of next month.
Belgian journalist Kristof Terreur claims that talks have taken place over the past few weeks between the two clubs although there has been no agreement over the size of the fee.
Courtois spent three seasons on loan at Atletico Madrid shortly after joining Chelsea in 2011. His former partner and their two children still live in the Spanish capital and Courtois has frequently cited those family pressures as a reason to move back to Madrid.
Courtois could be one of two players set to move to Real Madrid. The La Liga side are also being linked with a move for Chelsea midfielder Eden Hazard.
