Arsenal Close In On Torreira, Guendouzi Transfers

Torreira Deal To Be Completed Today

Lucas Torreira Arsenal transfer news

Arsenal expect to announce one new signing today with another prospective move in the pipeline.

Sampdoria midfielder Lucas Torreira has flown to London and will undergo a medical with the Gunners later today.

Uruguay international Torreira saw his and his country’s World Cup adventure come to an end on Friday when they were beaten 2-0 by France in the quarter-final. Talks between Arsenal and the Serie A side concluded some weeks ago over a €30million (£26million) move.

‘I would have been very happy to be able to return to Uruguay with my teammates, but this is a fantastic opportunity [to join Arsenal] and I do not want to waste it,” he told Telenoche.

“I knew that this was the opportunity of my life to be able to progress as a person and to be able to develop at a very big club.”

He added that he aims to return to Uruguay once his transfer has gone through.

Torreira played in all five of Uruguay’s matches at the World Cup.

Arsenal Close To Guendouzi

Arsenal are in talks with Lorient over a move for France Under-20 international midfielder Matteo Guendouzi. The 19-year-old made 20 appearances for Lorient in France’s Ligue 2 last season having played in nine games in 2016-17 as they were relegated from the top flight.

According to Ouest-France, Arsenal are closing in on a deal worth €8million (around £7million) with bonuses on top of that.

Guendouzi was dropped by Lorient following a dressing-room incident following a 4-2 defeat to Valenciennes. He spent three months out of the side. He was also dropped for the trip to Nimes towards the end of April and didn’t play for the club again.

“I have found him to be affected by personal problems,” manager Mickael Landreau said at the time. He did not specify what those problems were.

Guendouzi is expected to sign a four-year contract with the Gunners. He will then join up with the France Under-19 side to take part in European championships at that age group to be held in Finland from 16-29 July.
