Banega Staying With Sevilla
Arsenal’s pursuit of Sevilla midfielder Ever Banega seems to be at an end. Gunners boss Unai Emery was keen to sign a player he knows well from his time in La Liga, first with Valencia and then with Sevilla.
Banega, who turned 30 last weekend, is now back in Argentina following a disappointing World Cup campaign. On a personal level he made the most of the limited opportunities he was given during the tournament by coach Jorge Sampaoli.
Arsenal have been linked in recent weeks with interest in the Argentine. But according to the Spanish newspaper Marca, club officials at Sevilla have spoken to Banega and he has told them that he has no intentions of leaving the club.
The midfielder has a release clause of €20million (£17.5million) in his contract with the La Liga outfit. That rises to €25million for the final ten days of each transfer window. In the case of this summer that would be after the deadline closes for Premier League clubs.
Arsenal have already signed Bernd Leno, Sokratis Papastathopoulos and Stephane Lichtsteiner so far this summer. But the Gunners are also in advanced talks with Sampdoria’s Uruguay international midfielder Lucas Torreira. The 22-year-old has agreed personal terms with Arsenal and the two clubs have come to an agreement over a deal worth €30million (£26million).
Torreira’s transfer is on hold while Uruguay are still involved in the World Cup. They face France in the first of the quarter-finals on Friday afternoon.
Wilshere Set For West Ham Switch?
Former Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere has held talks with West Ham United boss Manuel Pellegrini over a possible move to the London Stadium.
Wilshere is now a free agent after his contract with Arsenal expired at the weekend. He has been offered a big-money move to Turkish side Fenerbahce but he has had talks with Pellegrini about where he would fit into the Hammers line-up.
The former England international is now mulling over his move.
