Arsenal are one of a number of Premier League clubs interested in Real Madrid forward Lucas Vazquez.

The 27-year-old is being linked with a move away from the Bernabeu after failing to nail down a regular first-team place at the club. Vazquez came up through the Real Madrid academy. He spent a year at Espanyol in 2014-15 before returning to Real. But he has started just 38 La Liga games in the three seasons since then and is being tipped to leave this summer.

New Arsenal boss Unai Emery knows Vazquez well from his time in La Liga and he is a great admirer of his direct play.

But Arsenal would face competition – that’s if Vazquez ever comes to market. Liverpool are interested in both Vazquez and his team-mate Marco Asensio. Chelsea and AC Milan are also monitoring Vazquez’s situation. Milan were keen last summer although a two-year European ban now makes them less attractive.

But Vazquez is unlikely to push for a move away from Madrid. He is happy in the Spanish capital and although he made just 16 starts in La Liga last season he was a substitute in 17 more and he appeared in 15 matches in various cup competitions.

Vazquez’s release clause of €310million (£275million) is likely to act as a deterrent. Much depends on the attitude of new Real coach Julen Lopetegui. But Lopetegui thought highly enough of Vazquez to pick him as part of Spain’s squad for the World Cup finals in Russia and is unlikely to push for his exit.

A transfer to Arsenal – or anywhere else – looks unlikely.

Cech Rules Out Arsenal Exit

Arsenal goalkeeper Petr Cech is playing down reports linking him with a move to Serie A side Napoli.

Cech’s place as Arsenal’s number one keeper is under threat following the arrival of new £20million keeper Bernd Leno from Bayer Leverkusen. But he insists he isn’t looking to leave the Emirates.

“Napoli were interested in me, but my future is at Arsenal and I do not think about changing clubs,” said the 36-year-old. “I still have a year of my contract with Arsenal, the only thing I want to think about is fighting for a starting position.”

David Ospina is expcted to move on this summer.
