Defender, Midfielder Set To Complete Arsenal Transfers
Arsenal will wrap up transfer deals for defender Sokratis Papastathopoulos and midfielder Lucas Torreira in the coming week.
Borussia Dortmund centre-back Papastathopoulos has been the subject of interest from the Gunners since the end of last season. The Arsenal hierarchy had expected the £17million deal to be wrapped up by now. His father Charalambos Papastathopoulos told Greek radio station Radio 24/7 that the deal was almost done. That was on 5 June.
Since then the deal has dragged on although Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc admitted earlier this week that the move was close to being finalised.
Reports now claim the transfer is expected to be completed next week.
Lucas Torreira’s £26million move from Sampdoria is also expected to go through in due course. His presence with the Uruguay squad at the World Cup in Russia is holding up this particular transfer.
Torreira has yet to undergo a medical with Arsenal and that will have to wait until his involvement at the World Cup is over. Uruguay play Portugal in a tricky round of 16 tie on Saturday evening.
The Gunners have negotiated a premium of €5million (£4million) to his €25million release clause after the Serie A side agreed to take payments by instalments. Otherwise they would have had to pay the full amount up front.
New Deal For Ramsey. Wilshere In Fenerbahce Link
Midfielder Aaron Ramsey looks set to sign a new contract with Arsenal. The Wales international midfielder has one year left on his current deal at the Emirates. But with new boss Unai Emery having decided on Ramsey and Granit Xhaka as his central midfield pairing the club have moved to finalise a new deal with the Welshman.
Meanwhile, reports from Turkey claim Jack Wilshere will sign for Fenerbahce on Monday. The 26-year-old formally becomes a free agent on 1 July and Turkish website Sabah believes he has been in Istanbul for talks with Fener.
Everton, West Ham United, Southampton and Crystal Palace have all shown an interest.
