Sevilla To Block Arsenal Move?
Sevilla are playing hardball with Arsenal over the transfer of midfielder Ever Banega. The Argentina international is being linked with interest from new Gunners boss Unai Emery. The Spaniard had Banega both at Sevilla and at his previous club Valencia.
Banega is currently at the World Cup with Argentina where there is pressure from Lionel Messi for him to start tonight’s crunch clash with Nigeria. Failure to beat the Nigerians will see Argentina head home early from Russia. But it would make Banega’s future much clearer.
But The Independent believes Sevilla have told Arsenal that the 29-year-old is not for sale. It says the La Liga side have a number of other players they would prefer to sell before entertaining any exit for Banega.
Reports from Italy are only partly backing that up. Banega has watched his former team-mate at Sevilla, the Poland international Grzegorz Krychowiak crash and burn after he followed Emery from Sevilla to Paris Saint-Germain. The 28-year-old had a disastrous first season in France following his £22million move to the Ligue 1 side in 2016. He made only three starts in the league in 2016-17 season and spent last season on loan at West Bromwich Albion.
Krychowiak’s experience is believed to have acted as a warning to Banega. However, he is believed to be unhappy over the departure from Sevilla of Oscar Arias, a close friend.
The Argentine’s release clause stands at €20million (£17million) rising to €25million (£21million) for the final ten days of the transfer window at the end of August. The Premier League’s transfer deadline will have passed by the time the increase takes effect.
Juventus Ditch Wilshere Interest
Juventus are no longer interested in former Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere. The Serie A side were being linked with a move for the 26-year-old even before his exit from the Emirates.
But Juve have now switched their attentions to other target principally the Russia international midfielder and Arsenal transfer target Aleksandr Golovin.
Everton, West Ham United and Crystal Palace are being linked with Wilshere.
