Gunners Boss In Contact Over Move
Arsenal manager Unai Emery has been in personal contact with Sevilla midfielder Ever Banega over a move to the Emirates.
Argentina international Emery is currently part of his nation’s squad at the World Cup in Russia, but Emery is keen to team up again with a player he managed both at Sevilla and prior to that at Valencia.
Reports over the weekend claim that Banega’s agent has flown to agent for talks with Arsenal. However, the local newspaper in Sevilla, Estadio Deportivo, says that isn’t true. It suggests that Banega has recently changed agents. However, it does suggest that Emery has phoned the 29-year-old in a bid to get him to consider a move to north London.
Banega has a contract with Sevilla that runs to 2020. The termination clause in his deal stands at €20million (£17million). However, that increases to €25million (£21million) in the final ten days of each transfer window. That won’t be an issue for Arsenal as the La Liga transfer window runs to the end of August. In the Premier League it closes two days before the start of the league season.
Wilshere Offered Short-Term Contract By Hammers
Meanwhile, Jack Wilshere’s injury record could be coming back to haunt him.
The former Arsenal midfielder has been released by the Gunners after failing to agree a new deal at the Emirates. West Ham United, Everton and Crystal Palace are all being linked with Wilshere.
However, reports today claim the Hammers are only willing to offer him a one-year contract. Manuel Pellegrini’s side have reservations over Wilshere’s injury record. The England international was sidelined for practically the whole of the 2015-16 campaign with an ankle injury. He spent the 2016-17 season on loan at Bournemouth before returning to Arsenal last season where he battled his way back in to contention.
West Ham want Wilshere to spend his first season proving his fitness and that he can fit in with Pellegrini’s long-term plans.
Wilshere decided to leave Arsenal after failing to secure guarantees over his game time.
