Torreira Deal Expected To Go Through
Arsenal have agreed a £26million transfer fee with Sampdoria for the Serie A side’s Uruguay international midfielder Lucas Torreira.
The news was confirmed on Tuesday by Sampdoria president Massimo Ferrero.
“Torreira has gone for €30million,” Ferrero told Italian TV channel Sportitalia.
“I bought him from Pescara when nobody believed in him. We gambled on him and we won, paying just €3million.
“The money we’re earning is necessary to increase our club’s capital.”
“If we get a big offer for somebody, I will accept it, but we don’t need to sell our players off at bargain prices.”
Torreira moved to Sampdoria in 2015 and has gone on to make a total of 74 appearances for the club. He is currently at the World Cup in Russia where he was a second-half substitute in Uruguay’s 1-0 victory over Saudi Arabia on Wednesday.
It had been thought that Torreira’s release fee was set at €25million (around £21million). However, Arsenal have agreed a deal that will see them pay a higher fee. The extra cash is believed to be to compensate Sampdoria for having the transfer fee paid over a period of time rather than up-front.
No Arsenal Transfer For Bale
The agent of Gareth Bale insists the Wales international won’t be moving to the Emirates.
Bale’s future at Real Madrid is still up in the air despite the arrival of new boss Julen Lopetegui. Talks are expected to take place in the coming weeks.
Manchester United and former club Tottenham Hotspur have both been linked. But Bale’s agent Jonathan Barnett insisted that there is no chance of an Arsenal transfer.
“As an Arsenal fan I’d love him to play there but it’s got as much chance as me going to the moon,” Barnett told Sky Sports.
Bale is expected to remain at Real Madrid. Speculation over a departure centred on Zinedine Zidane’s presence at the club.
