Midfielder Could Be Bought As Part Of Dembele Transfer
Tottenham Hotspur are being linked with a move for Inter Milan midfielder Joao Mario. The Portugal international, who spent the second half of last season on loan at Spurs’ London rivals West Ham United, has been put up for sale by Inter after being deemed surplus to requirements.
The 25-year-old played 13 games for the Hammers in the Premier League – 12 starts and one appearance off the bench. That followed just five starts and nine substitute appearances for Inter in Serie A in the first half of the campaign.
Tottenham and Inter are in talks over a move for Spurs’ Belgium international midfielder Moussa Dembele. But Inter are being hamstrung by Uefa’s Financial Fair Play restrictions and they need to sell before they can buy.
Mario’s name has come up in the discussions on a number of occasions and his sale would facilitate the purchase of Dembele. That move would take place after 30 June.
Inter have put a price tag of €32-35million (£28-31million) on Mario. Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy is unlikely to agree such a price. Knowing that Inter need to sell by the end of the month then Levy may indulge in brinksmanship nearer the end of the month.
