Arsenal Midfielder In West Ham Link
There are mixed reports over Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere today. But the former England international looks to be heading out of the Emirates when his contract expires at the end of this month.
Wilshere has been offered a new deal by Arsenal. Their initial offer of a £90,000-a-week contract represented a £30,000-a-week drop in wages although it was compensated by an increase in appearance money and in bonuses. That offer was subsequently improved to £100,000 a week and it remains the club’s final offer.
But one newspaper claims Wilshere will leave because he has been told he does not feature in the plans of new manager Unai Emery. The Sunday Mirror claims that Wilshere had agreed to put pen to paper on a new contract. However, he had talks this week with Emery when he was told he will only feature as a squad player in the new boss’s plans.
Meanwhile, The Sun On Sunday claims that Emery told Wilshere there will be no increase in the club’s £100,000-a-week offer. It adds that the door has now been left open to an exit for Wilshere.
West Ham United are monitoring developments and could come in with an offer of £130,000 a week. The Hammers will make Wilshere one of the best-paid players at the club boosted by the fact that they won’t have to pay a transfer fee for the 26-year-old.
The Hammers face competition from at least three other Premier League clubs. Everton were being linked with Wilshere even before Marco Silva’s appointment as manager earlier this month. Former boss Sam Allardyce was a fan of Wilshere.
Newcastle United have also been linked and there is interest from newly-promoted Wolverhampton Wanderers.
All three of those clubs have the disadvantage of not being based in London. Wilshere is believed to be keen to remain in the capital.
