Real To Make Move Once Chelsea Axe Falls
Chelsea boss Antonio Conte is the latest manager to be linked with the vacant post at Real Madrid.
Conte is expected to leave Stamford Bridge and it is something of a surprise that he is still at the club some three weeks after they played their final match of the season, the FA Cup Final victory over Manchester United on 19 May.
Real have had to widen the search for a new coach following Zinedine Zidane’s exit from the club last week. Mauricio Pochettino was the early favourite; however, the prospect of a long, drawn-out negotiation with Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy meant the move had no prospect of going ahead.
Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri has also been linked, but he has said he isn’t interested in leaving the Serie A champions after guiding them to four successive domestic doubles during his time at the club.
According to Marca, Conte is now the likeliest candidate to succeed Zidane. The fact that he looks set to leave Chelsea has taken him up the rankings.
That isn’t reflected at the bookmakers who still have Guti as favourite. The former Real Madrid legend, who is currently coaching within the club’s youth set-up, is evens favourite to land the job. Conte is the bookies’ second favourite while there is still money being put on Pochettino. He’s third favourite along with former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger.
