Agent In UK For Talks
Arsenal have had talks with Cristian Pavon over a move to the Emirates after the World Cup.
The Gunners were linked with Pavon in January with reports suggesting at the time that he could replace Alexis Sanchez. However, that bid didn’t materialise.
The 22-year-old Boca Juniors forward has a release clause of €37million (£32.5million) in his contract and Boca are already looking for a replacement.
Pavon is also reported to be a target for Chelsea and his agent also had talks this week with the Blues.
Reports from Spain claim that Lionel Messi wants Barcelona to snap him up. The Argentine superstar spoke warmly of Pavon to Radio Continental last week.
“I’ve found a new partner in Pavon, he’s a really good player,” Messi said. “He’s very quick and is different to what we have in the squad.
“With the qualities he has, Pavon could be a really important player for the national team.
“He’s not only really quick, but his decision-making is also excellent.”
Pavon is expected to start alongside Messi when Argentina open their World Cup campaign against Iceland a week on Saturday. The 22-year-old has scored 15 goals in 56 league games for Boca over the last two seasons.
Arsenal Lose Interest In Lemar
One player Arsenal are unlikely to make a move for is the Monaco winger Thomas Lemar. The Gunners saw a bid worth £92million collapse at the last minutes in August 2017 after the French club talked him out of leaving.
Lemar is being tipped to quit Monaco this summer with Arsenal and Liverpool both being linked. But the Premier League duo have cooled their interest and Barcelona are now believed to be the favourites to secure his signature.
Chelsea and Atletico Madrid are also interested in Lemar whose valuation has dropped from €100million to somewhere between €70million and €90million (£61-79million).
