No Interest At Present In Spurs Defender
Manchester United are not in talks with Tottenham Hotspur over the north London side’s Belgium international Toby Alderweireld.
The centre-back has been rumoured to be closing in on a move to Old Trafford after failing to agree a deal with Spurs. Alderweireld is under contract at Tottenham until the end of next season; however, his deal could be extended until the end of June 2020 if a clause in the contract is activated. The problem for Spurs is that the clause includes a release fee of €30million (£26million) – somewhat lower than his current market value.
Manchester United were reported to be interested. But Football.london claims that contrary to recent reports there have been no talks about any sale.
Alderweireld lost his place in the Tottenham side last season in what was an injury-hit campaign for the Belgian. He suffered a hamstring injury in the Champions League win over Real Madrid at Wembley and on his return he managed just three Premier League starts until the end of the season.
Talks over a new deal have floundered over wages. The 29-year-old currently earns £50,000 a week but he is looking for £150,000 a week. Spurs’ wage ceiling stands at £100,000 a week – even for Harry Kane.
Tottenham are interested in Manchester United striker Anthony Martial – a player they tried to sign when he was at Monaco. But the two deals will be handled separately.
Dalot Set For United Medical
Meanwhile, FC Porto right-back Diogo Dalot will have a medical at Manchester United this week.
The 19-year-old looks set to move to Old Trafford in a deal worth £21million. That’s higher than the £17million release fee in his contract with the Portugese side.
Dalot made just six league appearances for Porto last season having made his debut in October.
It was reported at the weekend that financial documents have been lodged by Porto with the country’s stock exchange ahead of the move.
