Sandro Set For Juventus Talks
Manchester United’s hopes of signing Juventus left-back Alex Sandro have taken a blow following reports that he is set for talks over a new contract.
United have been linked with the Brazil international for the past few months. That was after he was the subject of an unsuccessful bid last summer from Chelsea.
But reports from Italy this week have claimed that talks took place over the possibility of a new deal. Juventus no longer regard Sandro as unsellable. He has taken some flak in recent months over his performances for the club. However, the truth is that Juve have received no concrete offers for Sandro and haven’t ruled out a renewal.
Talks between Sandro’s representatives and Juventus chief executive officer Beppe Marotta are set to take place this coming week. Much depends on his own motivation but with an offer from United yet to appear the prospect remains of Sandro staying with Juve.
Juventus Chief Confirms Darmian Interest
Meanwhile, Juventus look set to firm up their interest in Manchester United full-back Matteo Darmian. The former Italy international is likely to be sold this summer after falling down the Manchester United pecking order under Jose Mourinho.
Speaking to reporters on Friday, Juventus CEO Marotta admitted that Darmian is a player that interests him.
“Darmian could fit in in terms of opportunities, players and profiles we’re looking for. He’s also an Italian player and we always think that the hardcore of a squad like Juventus should be represented by players who can also wear the Azzurri shirt. Italians have more ability and speed in terms of understanding our environment, so I can’t hide that Darmian is a player who interests us.”
United Eye Up Cancelo Move
Manchester United are being linked with a move for Valencia full-back Joao Cancelo. The Portugal international, who turns 24 tomorrow, has been on loan at Inter Milan for the whole of the season. But Inter have yet to exercise a clause in the loan agreement to make the deal permanent.
Both Valencia and Inter have issues concerning Uefa’s Financial Fair Play regulations. Valencia need to raise cash to remain within FFP guidelines. Inter need to raise cash in order to do so, hence the delay in their decision to sign Cancelo. They need to move on a number of other players first.
Reports today suggest Manchester United are eyeing up a possible move for Cancelo who can play either at right-back or as a right-winger. The deal has more of a chance of success should Darmian leave. Luke Shaw and Daley Blind are also being linked with exits.
United are also keeping tabs on Southampton full-back Cedric Soares.
