Seagulls Sign Romanian Striker
Brighton and Hove Albion have signed Romanian striker Florin Andone from Spanish club Deportivo La Coruna.
The 25-year-old has signed a five-year contract at the Amex Stadium and will officially become a Brighton player once the international transfer window opens on 8 June.
The Seagulls were interested in Andone last summer, a fact acknowledged by manager Chris Hughton.
“We are delighted that Florin has agreed to join us. He is a player that we have tracked for some time, and he will add a new dimension to our attacking options,” Hughton told the club’s official website.
“He is a very hard-working player, and has proven his quality at the highest level in Spain, as well as at international level. I am looking forward to working with him next season.”
The news was confirmed on both clubs’ official websites. No transfer fee has been revealed by either side but sources in Spain are indicating a fee of around €6million (£5.2million).
Andone has spent much of his career playing in Spain’s lower leagues. He had a season in the top flight with Cordoba in 2014-15 scoring five goals in 20 games in a campaign that saw the side relegated.
He moved to Deportivo in 2016-17 and scored 12 goals in 37 appearances in his first season with the club. He found a place in the first team harder to come by in the season just ended with the return of Lucas Perez on loan from Arsenal. Andone scored seven goals in 29 games although 13 of those appearances came as a substitute.
