Loan Deal For Barcelona Youngster?
Arsenal are the latest club to be linked with Barcelona forward Ousmane Dembele.
The France international is one of a number of targets identified by head of football recruitment Sven Mislintat, according to the Daily Mail. But the chances of the Gunners buying Dembele can only be regarded as slim.
The Gunners are rumoured to have a transfer kitty of £50million this summer following spending sprees during the last two transfer windows. The club transfer record has been broken twice in the past twelve months with the arrivals of Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. The club has also made Mesut Ozil the highest-paid player in its history on wages of £350,000 a week. Aubameyang earns around £300,000 a week.
The Mail believes that Dembele, Borussia Dortmund central defender Sokratis Papastathopoulos, Bayer Leverkusen goalkeeper Bernd Leno and Nice midfielder Jean-Michael Seri are all targets.
But there is no chance of Barcelona allowing Dembele to leave on anything other than a loan deal. The 21-year-old had a disjointed first season at the Nou Camp following his €105million move from Borussia Dortmund last summer.
Dembele suffered a hamstring injury in Septemberr that kept him out of action until the beginning of February. The expected arrival this summer of Antoine Griezmann is likely to further limit Dembele’s game time. A loan move could be the best option even though the fee for such a loan is likely to be around £20million.
But Arsenal will find themselves in competition for his signature. The Gunners’ Premier League rivals Liverpool are also keen.
