Alderweireld In Manchester United Link
Manchester United are set to have talks with Tottenham Hotspur over the transfer of central defender Toby Alderweireld. However, Spurs have put a price tag of £75million on the Belgium international.
Alderweireld has a contract that expires in 2019. But there is a clause in his current deal allowing Spurs to trigger an additional year. If they do that he would be allowed to leave for a fixed fee of €30million (£26million) after 1 July 2019.
It puts the north London club in a difficult situation. They could sell him this summer for what they perceive to be his market value, or they could trigger his clause and watch him go relatively cheaply next summer. Following Virgil van Dijk’s £75million move from Southampton to Liverpool in January, Tottenham have decided that Alderweireld is worth just as much and will demand that amount if he is to leave this summer.
For his part, Alderweireld has rejected the offer of a new deal from Spurs. He wants wages well in excess of £100,000 a week – he currently earns £50,000 a week. But his demands would breach the club’s wage structure and chairman Daniel Levy wouldn’t even do that for Harry Kane.
Spurs have had the best defensive record in the Premier League in each of the past two seasons. Alderweireld has played his part but he has had an injury-hit 2017-18 campaign. He started in 13 of the club’s 38 league games this season spending three months sidelined with a hamstring injury and a further month with a thigh muscle strain.
Meanwhile, Manchester United fans have become excited with the news that Brazilian striker Anderson Talisca has started to follow Marcus Rashford on Instagram.
Benfica forward Talisca is currently back at the Portugese club following a two-year loan spell at Turkish side Besiktas. Reports from Turkey earlier this week claimed that the 24-year-old has already agreed to join United. But there are doubts over whether he would gain a work permit as he has no senior international caps for Brazil.
