Croatian To Assess His Options This Summer
Manchester United are looking at Juventus striker Mario Mandzukic as the replacement for Anthony Martial. That’s according to reports from Italy this afternoon.
The Croatia international is under contract at Juve until the end of June 2020. He currently earns around €3.5million a year after tax – that’s the equivalent of just over £100,000 a week gross.
Italian journalist Gianluca di Marzio believes Jose Mourinho is looking at signing Mandzukic if Anthony Martial is sold by Jose Mourinho.
But the Croatian doesn’t exactly stand out as potential candidate to be signed by United. For a start he turned 32 on Monday and at that age Manchester United tend to rule out any sort of move for a player.
Plus his goalscoring record doesn’t mark him out. Mandzukic made 32 Serie A appearances for Juventus this season – 27 of those coming as a starter. But those 32 games yielded only five goals and it followed a 2016-17 campaign where he scored just seven times in 34 appearances.
Di Marzio claims that Mourinho is considering Mandzukic as an option. The Croatian will speak to his representatives about his future but he won’t make any decision until after the World Cup which begins next month. Croatia have been drawn in a group alongside Argentina, Nigeria and Iceland – a group they have a realistic chance of getting out of.
