Conte Set For Chelsea Exit. Enrique Favourite

Enrique Favourite To Take Over

Antonio Conte Chelsea

Antonio Conte looks set to quit Chelsea in the next 48 hours. The Italian led Chelsea to an FA Cup Final triumph over Manchester United on Saturday, but it has been a disappointing season for the west London side. The defending Premier League champions ended the season in fifth place and Conte will pay the price for missing out on Champions League football for the second time in three seasons.

The Daily Express believes that axe will fall on Conte in the early part of this week. It adds that former Barcelona coach Luis Enrique is the favourite to take over.

Enrique was one of the candidates to succeed Arsene Wenger at Arsenal and he even had talks with the Gunners’ director of football relations Raul Sanllehi. But his £15million-a-year salary demand – after tax – and reports that he wanted a £200million transfer kitty meant his candidature was only short-lived. Monaco coach Leonardo Jardim and Napoli’s Maurizio Sarri are also being linked. Both are rumoured to be about to leave their respective clubs.

The Express claims that Chelsea will pay up the final year of Conte’s £9million-a-year contract.

Relations between Conte and the Chelsea hierarchy collapsed following the Diego Costa affair. He is also believed to have been annoyed over the sale to Manchester United of Nemanja Matic.
