Newcastle United Keen On PSG Keeper

Areola On Newcastle Wishlist

Alphonse Areola Newcastle United transfer news

Newcastle United are being linked with a move for Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Alphonse Areola.

The Magpies had Martin Dubrawka on loan from Sparta Prague this season. However, they must pay £5million to make the deal permanent this summer and Rafa Benitez has decided to look elsewhere before making his decision.

Areola, 25, played in 33 of PSG’s 38 Ligue 1 matches this season as they regained their Ligue 1 title. But France Football claims that the appointment of Thomas Tuchel as the new PSG coach could lead to the German coach’s countryman Kevin Trapp being promoted to number one keeper ahead of Areola.

Former PSG academy player Areola has spent his entire professional career at the club. He had loan spells at Lens, Bastia and Villareal before gaining regular first-team football during the 2016-17 campaign. That was followed by promotion to first-choice keeper this season ahead of Trapp.

Areola’s contract with PSG runs to the end of next season. However, if he does leave then the French club will demand a transfer fee of €15-20million (£13.2-17.5million).
