Hazard Rules Out Manchester United Move
There will be no Manchester United transfer for Chelsea midfielder Eden Hazard. That’s according to the Belgium international himself.
Hazard’s future has been the subject of some speculation although rumours have suggested he may be on his way to Real Madrid rather than United.
The midfielder was the subject of interest from Old Trafford six years ago when it became apparent that he would be leaving French side Lille. But he chose a move to Chelsea rather than Manchester United in a deal that cost the west London club £32million.
Hazard featured in a live Instagram chat with the A Star Barbers account in which he was urged by one poster to “come to United”. “No chance,” came the response. He has frequently expressed his admiration for Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane leading to the suggestion that he could be on his way to the Bernabeu in a deal worth around €100million (£86million).
Barca President Play Downs Move For United Target Griezmann
Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu has confirmed that he has spoken to the agent of Atletico Madrid midfielder and Manchester United transfer target Antoine Griezmann. But the conversation took place over six months ago.
Manchester United were linked with Griezmann for much of last season. However, he signed a new deal with Atletico in June 2017 that saw his release clause increase from €100million to €200million.
There is a window of around six weeks from the end of the Spanish season to 1 July where the release clause reverts back to €100million and any transfer will be done in that time frame.
Barcelona have since been linked with a summer move.
“Now is the time to analyse the season and start preparing for next season,” Bartomeu told the Catalan radio station RAC1.
“I saw him last summer on vacation, we met him, as I have met other players, but I have not dined with him,” stressed the Barcelona president.
Reports last Christmas suggested that talks had already taken place between members of Griezmann’s family, who handle his affairs, and with representatives from Barcelona.
“We have a relationship with his representative as we have with other representatives, it was last October, it was a meeting, but nothing more, we must not give way to further speculation,” he said.
He added that talks haven’t taken place with Atletico’s president or chief executive.
“We have spoken about many things with Cerezo and Gil Marín. The relationship between the two clubs is good, but this is not the time to talk players at other clubs.”
