Mourinho Rules Out Big Manchester United Transfers

Manager Hints At No Big-Name Signings

Jose Mourinho Manchester United West Brom interview

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho insists that his club will spend responsibly in the transfer market this summer.

Mourinho saw his side’s Premier League title hopes disappear completely as yesterday’s 1-0 home defeat to bottom-of-the-table West Bromwich Albion handed the title to Manchester City. The Sky Blues are 16 points ahead of second-placed United with just five games left to play.

United have spent £300million on new players since Mourinho arrived at Old Trafford two years ago, but he says he will only tweak his side rather than make wholesale changes.

“We are not going to spend more than we can. We are not going to do anything crazy,” Mourinho said after yesterday’s defeat.

“We are just trying to improve a little bit more. That’s what we are going to try.

“Everybody will try to improve – like we did from last season. Last season we finished sixth and this season we are going to finish, hopefully, second.

“Next season, we are going to try to improve, but let’s see what happens. Maybe also City will invest massively and they don’t let the others close the gap to them, I don’t know. But it is not about us and them. It is about us and them and Liverpool and Arsenal and Chelsea and Spurs. It is not City and United. It is about the six.”

Darmian In New Juventus Link

Meanwhile, Juventus look set to make a bid for Manchester United full-back Matteo Darmian. The Italy international has fallen down the pecking order at Old Trafford this season with just two starts and three appearances off the bench in the Premier League.

Juve look set to part with Kwadwo Asamoah and Stephane Lichtsteiner this summer while Manchester United transfer target Alex Sandro could be sold.

The Serie A leaders have earmarked Darmian as one of the players they wish to bring in as a replacement.

Juventus are also being linked with United striker Anthony Martial.
