Manchester United Linked With Leicester Defender

Maguire On Manchester United Hit List

Harry Maguire Manchester United transfer news

Manchester United are being linked with a move for Leicester City central defender Harry Maguire. Reports today claim the 25-year-old is wanted by United boss Jose Mourinho to replace Chris Smalling.

Smalling was recently replaced by Maguire in Gareth Southgate’s England team and the Leicester man could do the same in the Old Trafford set-up.

Maguire in only in his first season at Leicester, but he has already impressed with a series of steady performances that are likely to put him in the England squad for the World Cup finals this summer.

Since his £17million move from Hull City last summer he has played in every minute of the Foxes’ 33 Premier League fixtures.

Mourinho has had Maguire watched on a number of occasions this season and he has impressed with the information he has received in scouting reports.

But Leicester have a reputation for being hard-nosed when it comes to transfers. That’s something Riyad Mahrez has found in his efforts to get away from the King Power Stadium.

The Foxes’ Thai owners have a tendency to dig in their heels over their star names. Even a £35million bid that would see Leicester double their outlay on Maguire is likely to be turned down.

United To Hijack Fred Move?

Manchester United are once again being linked with a move for Shakhtar Donetsk’s Brazilian winger Fred.

Reports today are suggesting that United could hijack Manchester City’s bid to sign Fred. Representatives from City had talks with Shakhtar in January over a deal that would have seen them pay €50million (at the time worth around £44million). Shakhtar ruled out a move at that time as they were still involved in the Champions League but look set to part with their star name this summer.

There have since been contradictions over City’s interest with rumours suggesting it was a deal they planned to do in January or not at all.

United are now reported to be plotting a move. Jose Mourinho is looking to replace Michael Carrick, who retires at the end of the season, and Marouane Fellaini who will leave when his contract expires in the summer.
