London Duo In Battle For Euro 2016 Winner
Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United have joined a queue of clubs interested in signing the Barcelona winger Andre Gomes.
Manchester United and Liverpool have both been linked with moves for Gomes who has failed to nail down a regular first-team spot at Barca. He moved to the Nou Camp from FC Porto in the summer of 2016 for a fee of €35million plus a further €20million in variables including €15million if he wins the Ballon D’Or Award.
At present it seems the fee is just the €35million. Barca’s bonuses are safe with Gomes having had two disappointing seasons in Spain.
The Euro 2016 winner made 17 starts in La Liga last season along with 13 appearances off the bench. But he has fallen down the pecking order since the arrival as coach of Ernesto Valverde. He has made just five appearances so far this season along with ten off the bench.
West Ham United enquired about Gomes last summer after failing to land Sporting Lisbon midfielder William Carvalho.
The Hammers have been joined by Tottenham Hotspur in the race for Gomes’s signature. Manager Mauricio Pochettino believes he would be suitable for the Premier League despite being a flop in La Liga.
Gomes’s release fee stands at €100million (around £86million). The chances of Barca getting that much for him are zero. The Portugese is more likely to go for around £20million.
