Rakitic Linked With Arsenal
Arsenal have made an enquiry about Barcelona midfielder Ivan Rakitic according to reports from Spain.
The Croatia international is being tipped to leave the Nou Camp this summer as coach Ernesto Valverde looks to reshape his midfield.
Rakitic has made 27 starts in La Liga so far this season and been a substitute in three other games. But he has struggled for form leading to speculation about his future at the club.
Spanish website El Gol Digital claims that both Arsenal and Manchester United are interested in signing Rakitic. However, it adds that he will snub interest in United and move to Arsenal.
The problem with El Gol’s story is Rakitic’s age. He turned 30 last month and that’s the age where Arsene Wenger tends not to sign new players. However, Wenger’s influence in transfer decisions has become diluted since the Gunners recruited their £1million-a-year Head Of Football Development Sven Mislintat. It is the German who will the principal decision over whether Rakitic could move to the Emirates.
The Croatian is believed to be keen as he sees a similar playing style at Arsenal compared to Barcelona.
Schalke Eye Up Meyer Replacement
Max Meyer will exit Schalke 04 this summer with Arsenal the favourites to secure his signature.
The Bundesliga side are now looking at replacements for Meyer as they begin to accept the fact that he won’t be at the club for much longer.
Schalke scouts are concentrating on players in France with scouts said to be concentrating on two players in particular: 24-year-old Adrien Thomasson of Nantes and 23-year-old Wylan Cyprien of Nice. Cyprien has been linked with Southampton in the past.
Meyer will leave Schalke when his contract expires at the end of the season. While Arsenal are in pole position they face competition for his signature from Bayern Munich.
