Liverpool have received a boost in their bid to hold on to Mo Salah. The Egypt international scored his 29th goal of the season as the Reds defeated Crystal Palace 2-1 on Saturday.

Salah is being linked with both Real Madrid and Barcelona. However, the La Liga giants each have other targets that they wish to pursue this summer.

Barca look almost certain to sign Antoine Griezmann from Atletico Madrid in a deal that will cost the Catalan side €100million (£88million).

Real Madrid have also been linked with Salah. However, the word from the Bernabeu is that they have no plans to make a move for the Egypt international.

Salah cost Liverpool £34million from Roma last summer. But it is looking increasingly like the bargain signing of the 2017 close season. The 25-year-old has now scored 37 goals in 41 appearances in all competitions for the Reds.

A new contract for the striker looks exceedingly likely. It would see Salah’s pay increase to around £200,000 a week.

Meanwhile, Salah has unwittingly come in third place in the presidential election in his homeland.

Over a million Egyptians spoilt their ballot papers by writing in Salah’s name. Incumbent president Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi appears to have won the election with 92 percent of the vote. The turnout of 25million was 42 percent of the electorate, but many of those chose to spoil their ballot papers.
