Manchester United full-back Luke Shaw is reported to be a transfer target for Barcelona. But the England international would only end up warming the bench if he moves to the Nou Camp.

Shaw’s relationship with manager Jose Mourinho has come under the spotlight in recent weeks with the United boss singling out Shaw for criticism following the recent FA Cup quarter-final victory over Brighton and Hove Albion. The nosedive in their situation followed Mourinho’s insistence earlier this month that Shaw will not be sold in the summer.

But speculation over the future of the 22-year-old continues. The Daily Mirror claims today that Barcelona have been alerted to Shaw’s situation and could be in with a bid this summer.

The current left-back at the La Liga leaders is Jordi Alba whose contract has two more years left to run. His understudy is Lucas Digne who has made just 10 appearances in La Liga this season and who is under contract until 2021.

So there appears to be no obvious space in the Barcelona side for Shaw. One of Alba or Digne would have to be sold in order to facilitate a move for the Manchester United man. That doesn’t appear to be on the cards at present.

A Barcelona bid for Luke Shaw appears unlikely.

Fellaini In French Link

Monaco are the latest club to be linked with a move for Manchester United midfielder Marouane Fellaini.

The 30-year-old midfielder is out of contract at the end of the season and is being linked with Turkish side Besiktas. French side Paris Saint-Germain have also shown an interest but the Ligue 1 leaders could be challenged in the race for his signature by Monaco.

Last season’s league champions expect to lose Thomas Lemar this summer with both Liverpool and Arsenal keen on the France international. Fellaini is being eyed up as a possible replacement.

The Belgium international has already rejected the offer of a new deal from Manchester United.
