‘Deal 100 Percent Agreed’ Claims Journalist
Antoine Griezmann is almost certain to move to Barcelona from Atletico Madrid this summer according to one report.
The France international was linked last summer with a move to Manchester United, but confirmation of Atletico’s transfer embargo led to him rejecting a move to Old Trafford in order to remain at the Wanda Metropolitano for one more season.
But United’s interest has waned and the club’s signing of Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal in the January transfer window has practically ruled out a United bid for Griezmann at the end of the season.
Barcelona were reported to have opened talks with Griezmann before Christmas. Now, Spanish journalist Albert Roge of the Catalan newspaper Sport claims a deal has been agreed although it is unlikely to be announced just yet.
Está cerrado, sí aunque obviamente ninguna de las dos partes lo confirmará. En @sport ya informamos del acuerdo privado que existe entre ambos y Griezmann será del Barça en verano 100% https://t.co/P0sxiZNDfS

“It is closed, yes, although obviously neither of the two parties will confirm it,” Roge said in a tweet on Sunday. “At Sport we have already been informed of the private agreement that exists between both and Griezmann will be Barca’s in the summer 100percent.”
Griezmann’s release clause stands at €200million (£176million). That falls to €100million (£88million) at the end of the season before rising back to €200million from 1 July. That gives Barcelona a limited window of opportunity between the middle of May and the end of June. Given that Griezmann is expected to ream up with the France World Cup squad at the beginning of J une that window is even more narrow.
It remains to be seen if Barcelona pay the full amount of the release fee.
He was criticised for the calibre of his performances earlier in the season, but a hat-trick in the 5-2 victory over Sevilla on Sunday brought his total for the season to 16 goals in 32 matches in all competitions.
